I was inspired by objects that reflect on the river,  which are included in Land Art. For instance, if there is a half of the circle on the water, it will be reflected and makes a full circle. Because the scanner was not big enough, I could not scan and print the whole reflected image. Therefore, I had to color the missing area with a pencil. I did not want to use hands, since hands are too common objects. However, I had no other choice. I had to use a printer in the school library and I had to be quiet and calm. The printer and the scanner did not allow me to be more creative, but it was fun.

I remembered that I had to do rug hooking as an assignment when I was in elementary school. As soon as I got another assignment in college, which was to create a work of art using 900 units, I was reminded of the rug hooking and decided to do it. I brought it on the way to school from home for spring break on the plane. I started that when I flew across the Pacific Ocean, and finished it when I got to New York. It took longer than I thought, but it was a great way to kill time for 13 hours of flying.

I made an elephant, because I am looking forward to studying abroad in Thailand this fall.

When I first got my own cellphone ten years ago, it was not a smartphone. There was no emoji such as 😍,🐌,👫,✋,💾 or 🚌. Instead, I used emoticons, like *^_^*, V( ͒🔽͒ )V, ≥ 3 ≤ or -___-;;. These kinds of facial expressions that we can make with the keyboard characters are considered American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) art. Both have the same concept that makes a picture or image with computer keyboard symbols.

ASCII art grows further than only creating emoticons. People these days can make anything using ASCII. This is really amazing, since we can produce art work with only keyboard symbols. As I am not an artistic person, I feel like in order to make an image, I should have some kind of paper and tool that I can actually draw on. I was amazed when I realized how many ways there are to create art.

The American National Standards Institute developed ASCII when many people started to use email a lot more often. Computer science is spread out in the world; it is not only prevalent in the science and technology fields, but also within art. Back to when I first used the cell phone, we only had several facial emoticons that we can put in our text. However, it grew to include the ASCII art of a Christmas tree for Christmas text messages and an umbrella for texts in cases where there will be rain. Now, people create ASCII art for anything with details.

This shows 200 frames of pictures making an animation about nature resources. The objects here are all natural except for the starting point, which is the color red, and the red ball. The color red changes into a red ball. A red ball turns into an apple. A leaf from the apple falls, and it becomes a sky with stars. A rainy, orange sky pushes all the stars and creates a maple leaf. It turns to a green leaf, which reveals a tree in another frame. There are so many nature resources that we should appreciate.
